- Unless you installed a program simply by dropping it in the "
Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" folder, it will have an entry in the registry and/or an included uninstaller. Caution: uninstalling a program permanently removes it from your computer, for you and other user accounts; if you plan on re-installing this application in the future, backup its settings by typing "%appdata%" in the start menu: hit Enter, and find the folder to copy to a safe location. - Type "uninstall" in the start menu and click "Uninstall a program".
- The Control Panel opens with a list of installed apps, which may take a few seconds to load.
Side note: to remove Windows Updates, you need to click "View installed updates" on the left; to disable some core features, click "Turn Windows features on or off".
- Click on a column header to sort by name, publisher, date installed, size, or version. Or use the search box (top right corner / Ctrl+E) to type a partial name or keyword to filter the listing.
- Right-click on a program and choose "Uninstall": some include choices, like "Repair" or "Change", to customize your initial installation or restore features to "factory settings".
- Enter the administrator's password and/or confirm "Yes" to the UAC prompt, and Windows 7 will delete that program: depending on the size of the application and the speed of your computer, this may take a few minutes; in rare cases, you may need to restart your PC.
- When done, close the Control Panel window: the program is gone from file system, and shortcuts to it have been removed from the start menu, desktop, taskbar, and other locations.
Tip: if you need to open files created with that application, search online for free "Viewers".
