Right-click on the text below (it's the path of the Quick Launch folder), and choose "Copy":
Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar and choose "Toolbars > New toolbar...".
Paste the path in the "Folder" text field and hit Enter.
Right-click on the taskbar: click "Lock the taskbar" to unlock it, if it shows a checkmark.
Right-click on the word "Quick Launch" (now on taskbar), and uncheck "Show text".
Right-click again to uncheck "Show Title": shortcut names / "Quick Launch" are now hidden.
Drag the border of Quick Launch all the way to the left (next to start button), and release.
Optionally right-click on the taskbar one last time to re-lock it.
Tip: to add or remove shortcuts from Quick Launch, paste the path into the start menu (or Explorer's address bar), and hit Enter - it will open as a regular folder in Windows Explorer.
To remove Quick Launch: right-click on the taskbar, go to "Toolbars", and uncheck it.
