- Some program windows cannot be resized: their "maximize" button is disabled, and moving your mouse pointer above their borders doesn't make the cursor a double-headed arrow.
- First, make sure that only a single window is opened for that program:
- Maximize the window, or resize it to your liking by dragging its outer borders in any direction.
- Close the program, and re-launch that application: has it worked? If so, you are done!
Tip: if that program ever "forgets" your size and position for it, just retrace the steps above.
- Some programs don't remember their window size and position because the shortcut you use to launch it forces their "window state". If you open the application from the taskbar, right-click on its icon and choose "Unpin this program from taskbar".
- Now find the program shortcut in the start menu: right-click on it, and choose "Properties".
- Confirm that the "Shortcut" tab is selected, and click on the "Run" dropdown: "Maximized" forces the program to always start in a full window; "Normal window" remembers the last size and position; "Minimized" makes the program start hidden in the taskbar until you select it.
Tip: some applications are designed to automatically resize and reposition themselves, or keep track of their size/position in their own preferences - check the application's help file.
- Click "OK" to save your new settings. If you want the program pinned on the taskbar, find the same shortcut in the start menu, right-click on it, and choose "Pin to Taskbar".
