- Enabled by default in standard Windows 7 themes, "Aero Peek" lets you see your desktop by moving your mouse pointer in the corner next to the system clock, in the taskbar.
Tip: Aero Peek is not available for simpler and/or accessibility themes like "Windows 7 Basic" or "Windows Classic", but clicking its button will show or hide the desktop.
- Right-click on the Aero Peek button, and uncheck "Peek at Desktop" by clicking on it: when no checkmark is visible, Aero Peek is disabled: moving and hovering your cursor above will do nothing, but clicking on it still minimizes / restores open windows.
- You can mimic the Aero Peek functionality with your keyboard: press and hold the Windows Logo key and hit the Spacebar: Windows 7 temporarily hides all open applications and shows your desktop in transparency (event if "Peek at Desktop" is unchecked).
- To emulate a mouse click on the Aero Peek button (shows/hides all maximized windows), press and hold the Windows Logo key, and hit "D" (as in "Desktop") to hide all open applications. Press the same keyboard shortcut, and all programs are restored!
Tip: this setting is also available under the Taskbar Properties. Check or uncheck the "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop" checkbox - exact same option and result.
