Show paragraph symbols and formatting marks in Word 2010
Hidden formatting marks let you see whitespace (spaces, tabs, line returns, paragraphs) and file structure (page / section breaks, hidden text, anchors), but won't appear in printed documents.
Click on the "¶" pilcrow button (Ribbon Home tab) to manually show or hide formatting marks:
You can toggle their visibility even faster by using the Ctrl+Shift+8keyboard shortcut!
You can tell Word 2010 to always show formatting some symbols by clicking File (top left) and choosing Options. Then, select the "Display" settings on the left:
If "Show all formatting marks" is checked, none of them will appear when you click to show/hide them: to display some of them all the time, tick their individual checkbox and click OK to save.
If you chose to selectively show (for example) paragraph marks, they will be visible at all times: once you on click the ¶ button, all other formatting symbols will show, but paragraph marks will remain on screen when you turn off the feature by clicking again on that same button.
