- With AutoCorrect options at their default setting, Word catches most letter-casing-related errors. For the rest, just press the Shift+F3 keyboard shortcut to toggle between lowercase, uppercase, and title case (or sentence case, if a period is included in the selection).
- Select the word or sentence to re-capitalize.
- With the mouse (vs. keyboard shortcut), click on the "Home" tab and click the "Change Case" button (you can also press Alt+H, then 7 to get to that menu, and then the option's letter).
- "Sentence case" capitalizes the first letter of the selection, and ensures that the rest is all lowercase - watch for proper nouns accidentally changed to lowercase!
- "Lowercase" converts every capital letter to lowercase.
- "Uppercase" converts the selected text to all-caps (use sparingly, since all-uppercase has become synonymous with "shouting" for your internet-savvy readers).
- "Capitalize Each Word": don't blindly use this hybrid casing option for titles, since articles, some prepositions (etc.) are supposed to remain in lowercase even as part of titles.
- "Toggle Case" inverts the minuscule and majuscule letters: "tOTAl" becomes "TotaL".
Tip: if a period is included at the end of your selection when you press Shift+F3, Word 2010 applies sentence case (only first letter capitalized). It will instead capitalize each word for the same selected text without a period at the end (no difference for upper/lowercase).
