- You can keep messages without having to waste precious storage space in your PST file for email attachments. Outlook even lets you add a note (reminding you where you saved these files).
Caution: since you cannot undo removing attachments, we recommend that you do it after opening it its own window - this will give you the option to cancel the changes before closing.
Double-click on the message to open it in its own window (or hit Enter when it is highlighted in the folder listing). To keep a copy of some / all attached files, right-click on any of them and choose "Save All Attachments" (or choose "Save As" and repeat to selectively keep copies).
- Right-click on each file you want to delete, and choose "Remove Attachment" (to go faster, right-click and press "V", the corresponding accelerator key).
- To add a note for yourself (reminding you where you saved these files, for example), click in the subject line - this only works when the message is opened in its own window - and type:
- Click the "x" to close, and click Yes to save (or hit Esc and then Enter!)
- Back in your inbox, the message no longer contains attachments you deleted.
