- Outlook 2010 shows the Navigation Pane on the left, to display contextual information, like email folders when you are in "Mail". You can resize it by laterally dragging its right border.
- Toggle Navigation Pane state with the Alt+F1 keyboard shortcut: expanded (visible, default), minimized (collapsed and docked on the left), and hidden.
Alt+F1 Collapses Navigation Pane when expanded. 
Alt+F1 Hides it when collapsed. Alt+F1 Restores it when hidden. - Show more or less buttons by dragging the upper grip: this works whether the Navigation Pane is expanded or collapsed; click the down arrow (right, circled) to access hidden buttons:
Show or hide the Navigation Pane with the mouse by clicking its button in the Ribbon's "View" tab. ("Favorites", checked by default, is only visible when "Mail" is selected, and determines whether Outlook should show your favorite folders above the entire listing or not.)- To customize the Navigation Pane, either select "Options" from that menu, or click "Navigation Pane Options" in the down arrow's dropdown menu (bottom right, circled in green on our screenshot).
- Where is the Journal in Outlook 2010? Just a click away: in the dialog that opened, check or uncheck checkboxes to add or remove buttons from the Navigation Pane: the Journal is hidden by default, but can be accessed by pressing Ctrl+8 whether its button is visible or not. Click "Move Up" / "Move Down" to move these buttons on the left or right.
Tip: click on the "Font" button to change the Navigation Pane's font family / text size, e.g. for email folders. Use the "Reset" button to restore default buttons and font settings.
- Once you've select the buttons you want, click "OK" to apply.
- These keyboard shortcuts work whether the Navigation Pane is visible, collapsed, or hidden, and whether that particular button is currently showing on it or not. Somewhat unexpectedly, they remain the same even if you move these buttons left or right.
