- The same way you can add multiple accounts in Outlook, you can delete them as needed: you can even run the program without an email address setup (but that remains pretty limited).
- To remove an account, click on File (top left - the Office orb in Outlook 2007), and choose Info.
- Click on the Account Settings button and pick Account Settings.
- Select the email account you want to delete, and click "Remove".
Note: if this is the only account you have setup, you may get a somewhat confusing message. But Outlook will automatically create a PST file if you don't manually add one yourself.
- When you get the "Are you sure you want to remove the {email@example.com} account?" final confirmation message, click Yes: Outlook will delete any IMAP folders, but will not delete any messages that were downloaded to your computer, or contacts that were added, etc.
- If you removed the default email account, the first one listed will become the new default. Select another and click on the "Set as Default" button to pick the default account yourself:
- If this was the only email account, you'll need to add another one before you can send a message (click on New button in same dialog). You'll be able to use all other functionality, like reading emails stored in local folders. If other accounts were setup, the difference will be imperceptible.
Tip: you can still check the deleted account from a browser, if your provider offers a webmail client. Many free mail providers automatically cancel email accounts after a period of inactivity.
