- If you already changed password with your email provider, Outlook 2010 will automatically ask for it when it next tries to send/receive for that account (since authentication will fail).
- Conversely, to change email password in Outlook, it needs to be changed first with your email provider: Outlook is just an email client, and follows what the mail server says!
- To manually change your account password, click on "File" (top left) and choose "Info".
- Go to "Account Settings > Account Settings", and double-click on the email account to edit.
- Enter the new one in the "Password" text field, avoiding any typo.
If your mail provider requires different outgoing authentication (rarely the case), click on the "More Settings" button (lower right). Select the "Outgoing" tab in the dialog that opens, check "Logon using" if needed, and enter your new credentials. Click "OK" to apply.
- To double-check your updated password, click on "Test Account Settings", and Outlook will send yourself a test email and check the server to receive it.
- If everything went fine, "Close" this test email dialog, click "Next", and then click "Finish".
