- Outlook 2010 lets you customize a default font for new messages, replies and forwards, and plain text emails: in Office 2010 applications, this new font family is called " Calibri ".
- To change it, click on "File" (top left) and choose "Options".
- Select "Mail" on the left, and click on the "Stationery and Fonts" button on the right.
Tip: if you are going to change theme as well, do that first and then change default font.
- To change the default font for new messages, click on the first "Font" button. • "Exotic" fonts not installed on the recipient's computer will be automatically substituted.
• The "+Body" and "+Headings" fonts basically mean that the font picked by Outlook 2010 will match (be inherited from) the current theme. Picking a specific font overrides the theme's default.
• Avoid using bold, which can come out as "shouting" (the same way "all caps" / uppercase does).
• Reserve underlined text for clickable links.
• Avoid using text effects like small caps, let alone hidden or strikethrough.
• Pick a high-contrast text color based on background (white by default, but depends on theme).
• Avoid using a text size smaller than10or greater than14: depending on your recipients' age and screen resolution, sizes outside that range may appear near illegible, or obnoxiously large.
• If Outlook shows a "This font style is imitated for display. The closest matching style will be printed." message below the preview, better pick another font that will look predictably on screen and paper.

- To pick another option for replying and forwarding emails, use on the second "Font" button.
- Checking "Pick a new color when replying or forwarding" lets Outlook choose that color based on the depth of the "conversation thread".
- To configure it for reading and writing plain text emails, click on the last "Font" button.
Tip: plain text contains no formatting, so this setting is cosmetic and only affects your copy of Outlook, not any message you send (those will use the recipient's email program settings).
- Click "OK" to apply your changes, and "OK" once more to return to Outlook.
