- To put Kindle to sleep (and save battery life), press the external power button at the bottom.
- To turn off Kindle Fire, press and hold the power/wake-up button at the bottom of the device.
Note: like on a computer, save/sync everything and ensure that no downloads are in progress.
- Tap on the "Shut Down" button to proceed; the screen will go black, and your tablet consumes
virtually no power in that state. To restart your Kindle, press and hold that same button. - No need to reboot because of a frozen app: to manually kill an unresponsive application, tap on "Settings" ( icon in top right corner), and select the "More" plus sign on the right ( icon).
- Tap on Applications: confirm that "Running Applications" is selected in the dropdown at the top.
- Scroll as needed to find the frozen app and tap on its icon.
- Tap on the "Force Stop" button: tap OK to dismiss the "Force stopping an application can cause it to misbehave. Are you sure?" (or Cancel to keep the app running to see if it recovers).
Note: this message is somewhat vague because apps aren't typically created by Amazon, and the way they handle data varies. It's generally safer to wait or restart your Kindle altogether.
