- By default, a simple swipe of the finger unlocks your Kindle Fire. Since it is already registered with your Amazon account when you receive it, you never have to enter that password.
Tip: changing your Amazon password is automatically updated on your Kindle. • To change your Amazon.com password, login to your account.
• On the next screen, scroll down and click "Change Account Settings":
• Click the "Edit" button next to your "********" password.
• Enter your current password (security measure), and the new one twice (for confirmation).
• Click "Done". Caution: the Kindle Fire doesn't include a password-reset mechanism. If you forget your it, the device will offer to reset its data to factory settings after four failed attempts.
- To add a password your Kindle, tap on the icon (top right), and choose " More...".
- Select "Security".
- Next to "Lock Screen Password", tap on the switch to make "On" turn orange.
- Enter the password you want (minimum four characters long), and confirm it in the next field.
- Tap "Finish" (or "OK" on the keyboard) - your Kindle Fire is now protected!
- From now on, you'll need to enter it to access your device: to test it, briefly press the power button to put your Kindle to sleep, and once more to wake it up: swipe, and the lock screen will show the "Enter password to unlock" screen, with a text field and the keyboard: type it and hit OK.
- To remove password protection, go again to gear icon (settings) > More > Security, and tap on the On/Off switch next to Lock Screen Password. Enter your password, and tap OK / Finish.
- To change your Kindle Fire password, turn it off first (above), and then assign a new one.
