JavaScript toLowerCase() method

The toLowerCase() method belongs to JavaScript's String object: it returns an all-small-case copy of a string, ignoring numbers and symbols. The original variable is *not* modified: var str = "I learn JavaScript"; // Display converted string, and original variable on 2nd line: alert( str.toLowerCase() +"\n" + str );
To change the original string to lowercase, equate it to its converted self, like this: var str = "I learn JavaScript"; str = str.toLowerCase(); // str variable now in minuscules! alert( str );
With CSS stylesheets, you can make text appear in lower cases, regardless of capitalization: .lowercased { text-transform:lowercase; }
Practical example - force a form field to look (style) and become (script) lowercased: <input type="text" name="emailAddress" style="text-transform:lowercase" onchange="this.value=this.value.toLowerCase()" >
The PHP equivalent to JavaScript's toLowerCase() method is the strtolower() function: $emailAddress = strtolower( $emailAddress );
Sister / opposite method: get an all-caps copy of a string by using toUpperCase().
