- For standard keyboard shortcuts, simply using the modifiers checkboxes and accelerator key dropdown in Visual Studio will work just fine. Default shortcuts displayed will be user-friendly.
- Problems arise when trying to assign less conventional keyboard shortcuts: here we map Alt+` (back-tick, below tilde) in the menu editor or VS Properties window - using "Oemtilde" as key:
- ...Which unfortunately displays "Alt+Oemtilde" as keyboard shortcut next to the menu item: in the properties window, type the shortcut as you'd like it to appear, right next to ShortcutDisplayString: this value will be displayed verbatim on the right. You can also set it at runtime, with this code:
menuItemName.ShortcutKeyDisplayString = "Alt+`"; - To hide the shortcut from the menu, set ShowShortcutKeys to false in Properties, or dynamically:

Tip: other "OEM" keys you'll have to rename to something more human include: numpad numbers (vs. keypad numbers, left of keyboard), backslash, brackets, operators (OemPlus, OemMinus...), and punctuation marks (OemQuestion - sometimes used for Help menu, OemPeriod...)
