- Simply closing the web browser window will only logout if you checked your emails using a private browsing mode. Otherwise, manually click on the "Sign Out" link (top right corner). AOL will show a "Signing out..." progress message and redirect you to their homepage.
- To check your logout status, close the browser window, relaunch that same web browser, and go to mail.aol.com - seeing the blank Sign-in form is your confirmation.
- AOL Mail also includes an option to automatically logout after a predetermined amount of time: click on "Options" (top right), and select "Settings" from the dropdown.
- Scroll down on the right until you see "Auto Sign Off": select a time period in the "Automatically sign off when I'm inactive" menu, from 30 minutes up to two weeks.
Tip: if you check the "Remember Me" checkbox when you sign in to AOL Mail, this setting will be overridden. In that case, do not forget to manually sign out to erase that cookie.
- Then, scroll down and click "Save Settings" (near bottom left).
Tip: when checking your emails from a public computer, always logout manually for your protection. Ideally, go back to AOL Mail to make sure that you were successfully signed out!
