- In addition to standard email folders, AOL Mail lets you create custom folders to organize and store your messages. Right-click on any folder on the left, and choose "New Folder":
- Type the new folder name and hit Enter: if you've already used that name, AOL will give you a "A folder with the name [something] already exists. Please select another name" error message.
- Custom folders are listed at the very bottom left (you will likely need to scroll down to see them). If you only see "My Folders", click on it to expand: the new folder is listed at the very bottom, but all of them will be sorted by name when you refresh or login next.
Tip: clicking the "+" sign will also make a new folder; if you accidentally clicked on a new folder command, simply hit the escape key (Esc) to abort the operation.
- Rename a folder by right-clicking on it and choosing "Rename", or clicking on its gear icon.
Note: you cannot rename the standard folders, or the "Saved Mail" default storage folder. Clicking on the gear will also give you the total message count and the size of the folder.
- If you cannot see the entire folder name, resize the left pane by dragging its border to the right: this trick doesn't work if "Today on AOL" is currently selected.
- AOL Mail doesn't support moving folders around; nor does let you currently create make subfolders: but since custom folders are automatically sorted alphabetically, you can come up with your own naming convention that mimics subfolders: starting the name a certain way guarantees that similarly named folders will all be grouped and stay together.
