- The watermark Word 2010 optionally shows in transparency as document background can be text or an image - in addition to those included, you can create custom backgrounds.
Note: watermarks are not the same as page background color, which you can also change.
- Select on the "Page Layout" tab in the Ribbon and click "Watermark".
- Click to insert one of 12 text-based watermark messages: "Confidential", "Do not copy", "Sample", "Draft", "ASAP", or "Urgent" - and Word applies it to every page in your document.
- To create your own text background, click on "Custom Watermark" in the menu: • Make sure that "Text watermark" is selected.
• Enter your text, font family, size, and color (leave "auto" as size to ensure that the text fits).
• "Semi transparent" (checked by default) ensures that the "stamp" remains unobtrusive.
• Choose to show your watermark "Diagonal" or "Horizontal".
• Click "Apply" to preview, and "OK" to save. - To set your own picture as background, select "Custom Watermark" and choose "Picture watermark": pick a background image from your computer, and customize it. • "Auto" as "Scale" forces the picture, regardless of size, to cover as much of the page as possible. Reduce it to
50%(half size), or enlarge it as much as500%(5 times its current dimension).
• Leave "Washout" checked to keep the background image semi transparent (less distracting). - To edit a watermark you created, just select "Custom Watermark" again and tweak it!
Tip: make your custom watermark available to other Word 2010 documents clicking the "Save Selection to Watermark Gallery" option - this adds your creation to the menu!
- To delete the background image, select "Remove Watermark" from the dropdown.
