- Go to mail.aol.com: if someone is already logged in, click on "Sign Out" (top right corner). Otherwise, you will see the AOL Mail Sign-in form pictured below.
Tip: if needed, first create an AOL Mail account (you'll automatically be signed in at the end).
- Enter your email address or AIM screen name in the "Username or Email" text box: no need to type "@aol.com" if your address ends with that domain - AOL will automatically assume it!
- Enter your case-sensitive "Password" in the next field: if you cannot remember it, click on the "Forgot password?" link on the right to launch the password reset process.
- The "Remember Me" checkbox is unchecked by default: you will remain signed-in as long as you are using your account (sending, reading, filing emails, etc.), but will automatically logout after a period of inactivity (see our "Sign Out" tutorial to configure how long AOL will wait).
- If you check that checkbox, AOL will create a "cookie" on your computer: that tiny text file will tell the sign-in form that it should automatically login, which spares you from having to type your username and password every time you want to check your emails!
Never use the automatic-sign-in option from a public computer or a PC easily accessible by others. Anyone visiting AOL Mail will automatically be signed in to your inbox.
- Click on the "Sign In" button: if your credentials are correct, AOL will show your account. Next time, typing mail.aol.com and hitting Enter will load your inbox directly with the automatic login option!
- "Remember Me" only works for the current browser, so you can check different AOL email accounts from the same computer by using multiple browsers (even at the same time!)
