- Go to mail.aol.com and click "Sign up for free account", below the Sign-in form on the right. (If someone is already logged in, click on "Sign Out" (top right), and start over.)

- Enter your first and last name, as you want them to appear to your email recipients.
- Choose a username (the part of your email address that will come before "
@aol.com" or "@aim.com"). It cannot include spaces, but it can include a period (".") and/or underscore ("_").
- Click on "Check" to see if it is available, or select an email address AOL suggests.
- Type and confirm the case-sensitive password you want, and click "Next".
- Enter your date of birth, gender, and zip code.
- Pick a security question for password reset purposes, and type its answer in the next field.
- Optionally enter a cell phone number and alternate email address, and click "Next".
- Finally, type the confirmation code from the image and click "Sign Up".
- Keep checked or uncheck the "Make AOL my homepage" checkbox on the final screen, and click OK to go your AOL Mail inbox: you are ready to send your first email!
